News About Your Medicare Coverage and COVID-19

As we deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, a major concern for seniors is how to stay healthy and obtain health care from their doctors when needed.

Our national and local governments encourage us to be selective in visiting doctor’s offices, emergency rooms, and temporary testing sites.  Obviously, if you feel ill, have the symptoms of the virus, or other urgent health concerns, you should contact your doctor.

For people with a Medicare Advantage Plan, check your plan booklet about information regarding a telemedicine service or nurse’s hotline.  If you are unsure or can’t find your paperwork, contact your Medicare agent or the customer support line for your health plan.

Original Medicare has not traditionally covered these types of services.  However, The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has recently put out some information regarding this type of service for all Medicare beneficiaries. The following links below direct you to more information posted on Medicare.gov and CMS.gov :

Where it indicates members with Original Medicare patients pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount, a Medicare Supplement plan will part or all of your out of pocket expenses (depending on your plan).

Consult with your doctor’s office on how they are using telehealth and other similar services, plus ask them what your insurance covers for their practice.

If you have any questions and don’t have a Medicare agent (in the State of Pennsylvania) you can contact me at the email below.  Remember, be safe – we will all get through this.
